Adsense Portal

My experiments, my experiences, my advice, news that could be useful to you all. My Adsense Life in a nutshell.

Earn Money From Your Videos

Hey I recently heard about this site called Flixya which allows you to share your videos that you have posted on sites like You Tube and Daily Motion. The twist in the tail is something like this: You get payed for that.
The Story goes something like this: Ads are posted on your videos and just like other video portals here too you can watch videos rate them etc. When people come to visit your video and click on your ads or maybe through page impressions too you get to earn. The money that is earned is split 50-50 between you and Flixya.
They also have a rewards program that lets you get gifts for referring the site to your friends. Considering the fact that so many people upload so many videos everyday just like that I suppose it would do them some good if they get to earn from it.
Get to their site from here.

True Face Of The Left Revealed

Finance Minister Chidambaran recently stated how he would like to convert the millions of government employees who are savers into investors. One of the easiest ways to do this was to use the pension funds as an investment in the Stock Market. This seemed like a stroke of genius as far as i was concerned because of the way it would have increased the worker's wealth. Fact is that the Indian Stock Market has been growing at about 15% percent since its inception, which is much more than the Provident funds which the government is finding so difficult to sustain anyways.
So I was rather surprised when the Communist parties opposed this. They were the last people who should have had a problem with this I thought, afterall it was the workers who were going to benefit from it. Also supposing that the left parties have their votebanks among the working class, anything that is good for the workers must be good for them too.
Still I had no clue why they were behaving in so strange a manner. That was until Sunday. The guys at Indian Express have something called the Idea Exchange going where the supposed intelectuals of the country debate with the Express staff. They had Prakash Karat this Sunday and when asked why he was opposed to the idea of the worker's pension money being invested in Stocks in his own words was this "Putting government funds in the stock market means you are providing a vast source of capital to the corporate sector." The other reason that he gave was some obscure report in Chile for a similar experiment.
Now how sick and perverted is that? How can anyone have a problem with money being invested into the private sector as long as it is solving the purpose? I have read parts of Das Kapital and the one thing that was always there was the pursuit of reason in everything. They seem to have abandoned that and ahve shifted to dogmas instead. Well there you go.... thats for me the signs of the beginning of the end for a party.
P.S News comes in that the pension billed may still be passed although in a diluted form as the government has assured the leftists that the money will be invested only in government securities.

Google May Start Using Cost Per Action As Opposed To Cost Per Click

In its incessant efforts to improve Adsense for its advertisers Google has come up with a new plan. New is not actually the right word it has been planning to do this since some time now.
Ok no use maintaining suspence with somethin like this. Till now Adsense publishers were paid by Google according to the number of clicks they received on their ads. This led to widespread click fraud. People started using newer and newer methods to fool Google and try and increase their CTRs, (Click Through Ratio). This obviously did not please the advertisers and thee was even a click fraud lawsuit against Google in March. So the new idea is this: pay the publishers not on the basis of wether the viewers click on the ads but wether they take any action after going to the website which was linked through from the ad.
The money that Google will pay per action will be much more than what it pays for clicks. But then on the flip side it wil need a lot more impressions in order to get an action done. But then this will certainly be a guarantee to the adverstisers that they are getting their moneys worth.
Testing for this has already been started with a company named Mountain View based in California. To know more about this click here.

A Tragic Adsense Story

I dont know if the guys at google read my blog or not but if they did then this one is going to flatter them. Well this is the story of how my friend tried to break the terms of agreement that came along with being an adsense publisher and how he got royally screwed for that.
Well it all started out very logically. My friend figured out that even if he himself clicks on his ads they are counted in Adsense while from what he had heard our own clicks on our ads are not counted. But he decided to be on the safer side and called up all his friends and asked them to click on his ads and with a smug smile on his face thought "Ha! there you go, maybe Google would have figured out who clicked those ads from their IP adresses but they wont have a problem with people from different IPs."
Smug in this realization he lived hapilly for a few days until he realized another Adsense truth: CTR. Thats the click through ratio. Its the perecent of people coming to your site who actually click on your ads. The fact was that most of the time for most people CTR stays around 3%. Even on very well optimized sites it stretches only upto 15% and my friend here had a CTR of about 200%. This would have been highle dangerous and in a desperate attempt to reduce his CTR he started viewing his own page from his place an unbelievably large number of times: like about a hundred a day. This was the proverbial nail in the coffin.
Google's filters obviously must have tripped and one very gloomy day he receives a rather circumspect letter from Google informing him that his account has been cancelled. Permanently.
I donot intend to write this as a sob story, rather its about what we can learn from his mistake, what are the adsense lessons that we can get from this story?
1) This is like the most cliched one but nevertheless honesty is the best policy. We came to know later that there exists software which can track not only how many clicks were made on which ad units but also where they were from. Now if there are softwares available for that then surely Google can know about it too.
2) The amount of money that Google pays you is directly proprtional to your quality, evaluated by a benchmark known as the Google Page Rank so its in your interests to make your blog or site as good as possible.
3) Google knows how to differentiate between genuine and casual clickers. A genuine clicker being genuinely interested in the ad will actually perform some action on the site where he has gone to. You are paid more if the clicker does that.
4) The reason why Adwords and Adsense is the most trusted ad "agency" is the value it offers to the advertisers. The Money that my friend earned was duly returned to all those people who had given those ads.
The only thing I would advice is never try to cheat Google. They are way to smart. You can earn loads of legitimate money anyway then why be evil?

Justice Rajinder Sachar Report | Gujarat

After being roundly criticised the world over the Modi government has reason to cheer. According to the Justice Rajinder Sachar Muslims in government jobs in Gujarat are not that badly represented with respect to their population. The stats for Gujarat are something like this: Muslim population share 9.1%, share in jobs: 5.4%. So what you may say what about the other 4%. This is where it gets appaling. Figures for other states where there are supposedly secular governments is very distressing. One of the worst performers was West Bengal where the Communist party has had an uninterrupted reign of over 25 years. With them hankering over the rights of Muslims this is one serious issue that they need to look into. West Bengal has a Muslim population of about 24% and their representation in jobs is just 4%. Thats how bad it is. Now comes the worst part, out of this 4% not even one person is in the top management of a state run PSU.
So what is this report supposed to mean? Well I would say that its proof that politicians never do what they claim to. The communist party was at the fore front of the secular campaign. Their performance is an indicator enough. On the other hand it blunts the argument of the saffron brigade that "minorityism" was being practiced by these parties.
The one thing i do not want to happen is all those RSS walas reading this report or they will in characterestic fashion accuse Modi of being a back stabber and will demand that all the Muslims be expelled!!!!!!!!!!

Why is It the Most Watched?

Virginia Hefferman explains that the reason for this videos phenomenal success is the fact that its not in any particular language. As a large number of You Tube users are from Asia and they do not know english they must have found this as one of the most obviously enticing things on You Tube. I personally do not feel that its true, maybe it is this famous because of the kind of humour: its very simple, no clever jokes which nobody seems to understand. Read her full report here.

Reliance Fire | The Good It Could Do

Today morning was very satisfying on two counts. First I had my morning cuppa with my newspaper. Two days without your newspaper can be horrifying. The second was today's headline. That was about the fire at the Reliance refinery. Now the obvious question that arises is how does that cheer me up? Well it goes something like this.
The major reason for pollution as well as our dependance on other countries is our need for oil. Alternative fuels are the only way out of this. Till this point everybody is ok with me. Now comes the vital part, how do you encourage the innovators to work on these fuels? Well adversity is the mother of all inventions. Once the fuel prices rise high enough innovation will be imperative and will be fast too.
All you aunties and uncles who are horrified by this idea, Iam sorry that it seems like the only way out.
All my hopes seem to have been dashed as the governement has ordered IOC to export more gas. Sad. But there is still a way out of this way. This sounds even worse than the first one, increase taxes on oil: that too will have the effect of increasing the oil prices and will also result in the ripple effect that is described above.
Ofcourse an overnight hike would be disastrous for the industrial sector but a phased increase in taxes seems to be the only viable long term solution.
Would love to have your opinion on this.

The Story Continued......

Yours truly, who has styled himself as the modern day Sherlock Holmes dug a bit and found out that none of them had any contacts at all. CW knew a motley crowd of Rabaris, who are well known all over Ahmedabad for their ability to start a fight without any cause whatsoever. And for such practical purposes I plan to introduce myself as a distant relative of A K Antony.

How Contacts Are Created

Not having an internet connection at my place forces upon me the ritual of marching off to a cyber cafe. Generally its a rather drab affair but yesterday was a very good example of how contacts are created. For starters let me introduce to my Cyber Cafewala hereby referred to as CW. CW is a character to say the least. He is the only guy in the whole of Ahmedabad who demands identification everytime you get in. On top of that he tries to be the friendliest guy in the whole world. Thats enough material to get on any one's nerves. Yesterday a man walked in expecting maybe an hour of virtual Nirvana.
His hopes were rudely shaterred though when CW demanded identification. Being a true blue Indian the guy did not have his driving license on him. And he said, "Cmon yaar. Its ok na. I am paying u na so why bother?" Being the thickhead he always was, he said: "Sir if you do not have proper identification then you can please leave." This was said with a finger pointed at that guy. This was all that guy needed. He burst into an assault on CW's mom and sisters' characters. Not to be left behind CW reciprocated in kind. Being stronger the customer pinned him on the table. This is where it gets interesting: Both of them curse each other in English coz thats supposed to be prestigious u see. Then the customer tells him that: U do not know who iam (which was true considering the fact that he was there for the first time) i am the son of the DSP of this area. This got CW real worked up, " MF I am the CM's nephew." This instead of inciting laughter managed to scare the customer, who promptly left. CW ran to check the number of his car and called up some people who confirmed that it was not the DSP's son at all. The CM thing was crap too as the only person he knew turned out to be the village sarpanch. Real fun. Hope this happens everyday.

Whipping Up The Creamy Layer

The recent ruling by the Supreme Court which stated that reservation shouldnot extend to the creamy layer of the Scheduled Casts and Scheduled Tribes has invited rather sharp reactions from the political community, some of them are as follows:

"The Supreme Court has taken a decision. We have to study it and then we will act."
-That was our PM. Ambiguity Personified.
"Remedial legal and constitutional steps" should be taken says
Sharad Yadav Janata Dal (U) President
"The Constitution has no provision for creamy layer within the Scheduled Tribes and Castes precisely because of the compelling realities of their socio-economic oppression and exploitation. It is unfortunate that the court has ignored the social reality while pronouncing judgement on such a vital issue."
-CPI (M) Politburo
PMK on Friday said the Supreme Court's judgment that the "creamy layer" should be excluded from the reservations for the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes in government jobs, would crush the concept of reservation and hence steps should be taken to get it modified.

Whoa!!!!!!! Seems like the survival of the Scheduled Casts and Tribes is at stake. Or is it the other way around? Is it these very politicians who are shit scared because of the Assembly Elections around the corner? Well as far as i am concerned its the second option.
Lets try and analye the situation. For starters lets look at the Supreme Courts observations : "It is made clear that even if the state has compelling reasons, the state will have to see that its reservation provision does not lead to excessiveness so as to breach the ceiling limit of 50 per cent or obliterate the creamy layer of extended reservation indefinitely." So what you may say, thats what this is all supposed to be about? Right? Right? No wrong.
Its not about that at all. It all comes down to a very simple thing, votebanks. What is Reservation supposed to be about anyways? Helping the downtrodden reach a level that is at par with the majority, it is about giving people a chance to compete on an even keel. And the Supreme Court maintaining its status as the sole voice of sanity left in the Indian judiciary or the Administration for that matter, stated that reservations for people who no longer need them should be stopped. That will help free up resources that can help people who acatually need them. But this is not even feasible as is demonstrated by all these parties ganging up against this very idea. And this is not actually the worse that can happen Sharad Yadav is even against the idea of "judicial interference" and wants the constitution to be so modified that the Supreme Court cannot pass judgements on such issues.
Again its astonishing that crap like this gets accepted without even a debate. Nobody seems to have a problem. Thats the saddest part.
So, what do we do? Sit and ponder i guess or maybe write blogs about it. Thats all we have always done. Cant expect much.
